Welcome to CentralFloridian.com!
The Heart of the Sunshine State

Welcome to CentralFloridian.com, an online community created for the people who live, work, and spend time in Central Florida. Our goal is to bring local residents together to share information, discuss local issues, discover interesting places, promote community events, and learn more about the area we call home.

Whether you're interested in local history, upcoming events, area businesses, community discussions, classified ads, or simply getting to know your neighbors, there's a place for you here!

Our community is built on the idea that everyone should feel welcome to participate, share their knowledge, ask questions, and contribute to making Central Florida a better-informed and more connected community.

To help make this a positive experience for everyone, please follow the guidelines below.

1. Be Respectful to Others

Treat fellow members with courtesy and respect, even when you disagree with their opinions.

  • Personal attacks, insults, bullying, and targeted harassment are not permitted.
  • Disagreements and spirited debates are welcome, but keep the discussion focused on the topic rather than attacking other members.
  • Hate speech, racism, bigotry, and content intended to demean or threaten others are prohibited.
  • Do not threaten, intimidate, stalk, or encourage others to harass a member.
  • Respect the fact that people have different backgrounds, experiences, and points of view.

You don't have to agree with everyone, but you are expected to treat everyone with basic respect.

2. Keep Posts Appropriate and On Topic

We encourage a wide variety of discussions relevant to Central Florida and beyond. Please use the appropriate forum or section for your topic.

  • Choose a suitable board when starting a new topic.
  • Use descriptive topic titles that help others understand what your post is about.
  • Avoid spam, repetitive posts, meaningless replies, and deliberate disruption.
  • Do not post obscene or sexually explicit material.
  • Do not hijack another member's topic with unrelated content. Start a new topic when appropriate.
  • Do not create multiple topics to promote the same item, service, event, or website without permission from the administrators.

Constructive criticism, controversial subjects, and respectful debate are welcome. Posts may be moderated when they violate these guidelines or disrupt the community.

3. Protect Personal Information and Privacy

Respect your own privacy and the privacy of others.

  • Do not publish another person's private information without their permission.
  • Do not post private messages, personal correspondence, or private conversations without permission from the people involved, unless disclosure is otherwise appropriate and lawful.
  • Do not post private phone numbers, home addresses, email addresses, account details, or other sensitive personal information in public discussions.
  • Never publish passwords, financial information, or other information that could compromise someone's security.

Special exception for the Community Calendar: Event organizers may post relevant contact details, such as an event address or phone number, in the Community Calendar when needed for an event. Remember that calendar information is publicly accessible, so only publish information you are comfortable sharing with the public.

For other sections, use the site's Personal Message (PM) system when you need to exchange contact information privately.

4. No Spam or Unauthorized Advertising

CentralFloridian.com is intended to be a community resource, not a platform for unsolicited advertising.

  • No Political Ads! Political campaigns are not allowed here. This includes calendar events and private messages.
  • Do not post spam, unsolicited promotional messages, or repetitive advertisements.
  • Do not use private messages to send unsolicited advertising or mass promotional messages.
  • Do not create accounts solely to promote a business, product, service, or external website.
  • Do not post fraudulent offers, deceptive promotions, phishing links, or misleading claims intended to exploit other members.

Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate constructively in the community and use appropriate sections of the site for permitted listings and promotions.

5. Classifieds: Buying, Selling, and Wanted Items

The Classifieds section allows members to advertise items for sale or post requests for items they are looking to purchase.

  • Provide an accurate description of the item, including its condition and asking price when applicable.
  • Do not misrepresent an item or knowingly post false information about it.
  • Do not publish phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses, or other personal contact information in classified topics or replies.
  • If you're interested in an item, contact the seller through the site's Personal Message (PM) system.
  • Update your listing when an item has sold or is no longer wanted.

Members are responsible for their own transactions. Use caution when buying or selling, verify information where possible, and take reasonable precautions when arranging a transaction.

6. Community Calendar and Local Events

The Community Calendar is a place to share events happening in Central Florida, including garage sales, markets, parties, festivals, fundraisers, public meetings, and community gatherings.

  • Provide accurate event details, including the date, time, location, and other relevant information.
  • Only post events you have a reasonable basis to believe are legitimate.
  • Do not use the calendar to promote illegal activities, fraudulent events, or prohibited content.
  • Remember that calendar listings are publicly accessible, including any contact information you choose to include.

Help your neighbors discover what's happening locally and make the most of our community!

7. Share Accurate Information and Cite Sources

We encourage members to share local knowledge, news, opinions, and information. Help others evaluate what they read by being clear about what you know and what you believe.

  • Make a reasonable effort to ensure that factual claims are accurate.
  • When discussing news, statistics, public safety, or other matters of fact, provide a source when practical.
  • Clearly distinguish personal opinions and speculation from verified information.
  • Do not knowingly spread fabricated stories, fraudulent claims, or deliberately misleading information.
  • Correct your own mistakes when you discover that information you posted was inaccurate.

Healthy discussion depends on members being willing to question information, consider different perspectives, and correct errors.

8. Copyright and Content Ownership

Respect the rights of authors, photographers, artists, and other content creators.

  • Do not post copyrighted material in its entirety without permission or a legal basis to do so.
  • Brief quotations for discussion or commentary should identify the original source and include a link when possible.
  • When sharing photographs, articles, videos, or other content created by someone else, provide appropriate attribution and follow applicable copyright rules.
  • Only upload or publish material that you have the right to share.

9. Wiki Articles, Photos, and Community Contributions

CentralFloridian.com encourages members to help build a useful resource about Central Florida.

  • Contribute accurate, informative, and relevant information to local articles and discussions.
  • When editing wiki articles, keep information factual, constructive, and appropriately sourced.
  • Do not vandalize pages, deliberately remove useful information, or repeatedly undo other members' edits to disrupt the site.
  • Only upload photographs and other material you have permission to share.
  • Respect the privacy of people who appear in photographs, particularly when identifying or sharing information about private individuals.

The goal is to build a resource that the entire community can use and improve over time.

10. No Illegal or Dangerous Content

Content that facilitates illegal activity, fraud, threats, or harm to others is prohibited.

  • Do not post credible threats of violence or encourage harm against individuals or groups.
  • Do not use the site to facilitate fraud, scams, or other unlawful activities.
  • Do not publish malicious links or content intended to compromise another person's device, account, or security.

The administrators and moderators help maintain a welcoming, useful, and safe community.

Depending on the circumstances, staff may:

  • Edit, move, lock, or remove topics and posts that violate these guidelines.
  • Issue warnings or temporarily restrict a member's posting privileges.
  • Suspend or permanently ban accounts for serious or repeated violations.
  • Remove spam accounts and content that threatens the security or operation of the site.

The appropriate response will depend on the nature and severity of the violation and the member's conduct. Serious misconduct may result in immediate action.

Do not create additional accounts to evade a suspension or ban.
